T12 Cold Forming Machine
For large to very large splines on sheet metal and solid materialThe T12 cold forming machine is the largest of our spline machines. It is mainly used for the splining of clutch carriers and other rotationally symmetrical hollow parts, but it can also form large profiles on solid material parts without any problems. The T12 cold forming machine is characterized by very short cycle and setup times, high process stability and minimal tool costs, making it ideal for a wide range of applications in the automotive, appliance and mechanical engineering industries where high quality and low manufacturing costs are required.
Machine-specific application possibilities
The torque drive, developed in-house by Grob and used, among others, in the T12, allows extremely fast and highly precise indexing of the workpiece, which, in combination with the machine’s high-dynamic CNC axes, leads to exceptionally good forming performance with consistently very high accuracy. The T12 cold forming machine can be easily expanded into a fully automated production line together with other Grob machines for the production of raw parts (R3 spinning machine) and for the further processing of splined parts (S8 stamping machine). Setup times of just a few minutes allow flexible production planning and demand-oriented manufacturing. The machines are very often used in the automotive sector for the series production of splines on clutch carriers for automatic transmissions or for the cold forming of torque-transmitting plug-in splines on shafts and axles, as used for example in the drivetrain of passenger cars, commercial vehicles or agricultural machines. The cold forming machines also deliver very stable processes and correspondingly low spline costs in the series production of splines in the appliance and mechanical engineering sectors.

Your advantages
Like all Grob machines, the T12 cold forming machine impresses with its well-developed machine concept focusing on efficiency, flexibility and maintenance-friendliness, and is based on decades of experience in building cold forming machines. The T12 cold forming machine operates using the proven Grob cold forming process, in which the forming is divided into many small steps that extend over the entire cylindrical section of the forming zone.
The splines produced in this way impress with cost-efficiency, highest precision and surface quality, combined with the well-known advantages of cold forming: no destruction of the material structure, work hardening, improvement of the material structure, material savings, minimal distortion, etc.
The universal and modular design of the T12 cold forming machine allows, in addition to the main application of cold forming splines on sheet metal parts, the use of other Grob processes such as roll forming, impact stamping, reducing sheet metal parts or also cold forming and roll forming of solid material parts with large modules.

FAQ
Can solid material parts also be processed?
Yes, large profiles in solid material can also be formed without any problems.
For which applications is the T12 cold forming machine suitable?
The T12 is mainly used in the automotive industry for the series production of splines on clutch carriers for automatic transmissions. It is also used in the production of splines for plug-in shafts, axles, brake disc carriers and various splines in industrial applications.
How flexibly can the T12 cold forming machine be used?
Thanks to the well-designed tool holders, the modular design of the machine and the freely programmable number of teeth, a wide variety of workpieces can be produced with minimal setup effort.
Is the T12 cold forming machine also suitable for series production?
Yes. The T12 cold forming machine is mostly used for series production. Due to the very short cycle times, high process reliability and the possibility to automate the machines, the T12 is ideal for series production of medium to very large batch sizes.
What distinguishes the T12 cold forming machine compared to machines from other manufacturers?
The T12 is extremely modular, achieves very short cycle times and offers high process stability.
What kind of splines can be produced with the T12 cold forming machine?
The T12 can produce a wide range of spline and spline-like geometries – from classic involute splines to sawtooth geometries. In most cases, the splines are customer-specific geometries on sheet metal parts.
What other advantages does the Grob cold forming process offer?
Work hardening, no destruction of the material structure, very low distortion after subsequent heat treatment, forming of solid material up to a strength of 1,500 N/mm², 1,100 N/mm² for sheet metal.
What surface finish can be achieved with the Grob cold forming process?
Surface roughness of at least Ra 0.4 ~ N5
Which process is mainly used on the T12 cold forming machine?
The T12 mostly operates in the interrupted partial process using the long-established Grob cold forming process, a chipless forming process for producing splines and spline-like geometries. The Grob cold forming process enables highly efficient and precise production of splines with large to very large modules. Thanks to the universal and modular design of the T12 cold forming machine, various other Grob processes such as roll forming, impact stamping and reducing can also be used.
