Centrifugally optimised clutch plate carrier
The centrifugally optimised clutch plate carrier is a variant of the clutch plate carrier in which the internal spline can be used right up to the open end while a reinforcing radial ring still remains at the open end of the carrier. Ernst Grob produces it by internal forming on the i9 machine or by intermittent forming on the T12. This enables a simpler and more stable component.

Clutch plate carrier
A clutch plate carrier is a component of multi-plate clutches that guides the clutch plates via an internal or external spline. Ernst Grob produces plate carriers through a continuous process chain from the blank to the finished part, using spinning, cold rolling, and slotting and coining.

Extruder shafts
For extruders, Ernst Grob produces very long and, in some cases, large splined shafts. On a new machine, shafts up to 12 metres in length and around 2 tonnes in weight can be produced. The splines are produced by cold forming.

Internal gearing
Internal gearing is a gear or spline on the inside of a ring-shaped component, such as a transmission ring gear. Ernst Grob produces internal gearing by internal forming on the i9 machine. The gearing can be designed differently along its length.

Rotor shaft
The rotor shaft is the central shaft in the rotor of an electric motor and transmits its torque. Ernst Grob also produces rotor shafts as hollow shafts by external forming, which saves material and weight.

Sheet metal cup made of complex-phase steel
A sheet metal cup made of complex-phase steel is a rotationally symmetrical hollow body. Ernst Grob produces it by spinning on the R3 and T12 machines. In a complex-phase steel (CP steel), both the microstructure and the mechanical properties change during cold forming. In particular, the yield strength and the hardness increase significantly.

Snap ring grooves, axial stops and oil holes
Snap ring grooves, axial stops and oil holes are functional elements that Ernst Grob produces by slotting and coining on the S8 machine, for example on clutch plate carriers. The combination of rolling and slotting processes produces a particularly stable snap ring groove.

Speed sensor slots on clutch plate carriers
Speed sensor slots are made in clutch plate carriers so that the rotational speed of the component can be measured for transmission control. Ernst Grob produces such slots in sheet metal parts by slotting and coining.

Spun preform for splining
A spun preform is a blank produced by spinning that is further processed in follow-up processes, for example for splining. Ernst Grob produces it on the R3 spinning machine.

Stub axles
A stub axle is a splined shaft that transmits torque between two components via a plug-in, positive-locking connection. Ernst Grob produces the spline by chip-free cold forming, using either cold rolling or intermittent forming depending on the position of the spline. The result is a work-hardened spline with a high surface finish.

Torsion bars (torsion bar springs)
Torsion bars (torsion bar springs) are components that act as springs through their elastic twisting. Ernst Grob is one of the few suppliers able to produce them by forming in the required quality.

Yoke shaft
A yoke shaft is a shaft with a fork-shaped end and a spline on the shaft body through which torque is transmitted. Ernst Grob cold rolls the spline on the C9 or A9 machines. Cold forming produces a work-hardened spline with high strength.
